The ties between Lions Clubs International and the United Nations date back to 1945,  Lions Clubs International was asked to help develop the charter for the United Nations and since then the partnership has gone from strength to strength.
From the beginning the relationship between Lions Clubs International and the UN has been limited to humanitarian endeavours, in keeping with the Lions Clubs stated objects, Lions has no involvement in the political or security affairs of the UN.
Over the Years, Lions and the UN have co-operated on many humanitarian ventures with Lions providing aid and manpower for UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund), WHO (World Health Organisation) and UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation) projects.
To this day Lions Clubs International is the only International service organisation to be awarded the privilege of holding an annual general meeting with the United Nations
